Quiz on US Presidential Politics, of the past

1 What was unusual about Harry S Truman's  middle name.

2 Which of these candidates did FDR not defeat in his Presidential election victories, Dewey, Willkie, Landon, Hoover, Harding,

3 Which of these surnames names has featured the most times on the ticket (Pres and VP) of a ticket that was either first or second in the national vote,
Roosevelt, Nixon, Bush, Stevenson, Bryan, Jackson, Clinton, Johnson, Harrison, Adams,

4 Who was the last person born on the 19th Century to be on the ticket of either of the 2 main parties,

5 I may be a bit wrong here, but anyway. Rev Lawrence Washington was born in 1602 in Essex, his son John Washington was born in 1631, and died in 1677 in Virginia, his grandson Augustine Washington was born in 1694. Whose son future President George Washington was born in the 1730s, and died in 1799. Buchanan who was elected president for 1857, was born in 1791, but died in 1868. FDR's VP John Nance Garner was born in 1868, and left office in 1941. How many presidents as of mid 2021, were born in the 1940s, and by the way all of whom served office in the 3rd Millennium AD

6 Who was born first Reagan or JFK,

7 Which of these states was not a independent country for a while, Vermont, Texas, Illinois,

8 Which one of these as first names, has never been US president, or Vice President, as of 2021.

Spiro, Zachary, James, Garfield, George, Millard, Ulysses, Rutherford, Gertrude, Chester, Grover, Dwight, Barrack, Donald, Joseph, Ronald, Bill, Jimmy, Gerald, Lyndon, Aaron, Elbridge, Hannibal, Schuyler, Levi, Adlai, Garret, Theodore, Calvin, Hubert, Nelson, Dan, Dick, Al, Kamala,

9 What was the name of the movie where Chauncey Gardiner, was the political genius, who skilfully manoeuvred his way into becoming the designated candidate of many of the leading lights in Washington. (I am being ironic)

10 Which of these was not a popular nickname or abbreviation of a US president, JFK, Dubya, LBJ, FDR, The Gipper, Old Abe, Yogi Bear,

11 What word occurs in both the title of official residence of the USA president, and the name of one of the hillforts known as the Caterthuns in North East Scotland.

12 What word occurs in both the official retreat of the US president, and the common extra bit of the name of the hillforts where the first name is Caesar's, then Bradbury, then British,

13 How many US presidents were born on the island of Britain, or country of France,

14 Who was the first US president to have served in World War Two,

15 Was Gerald Ford, the first US president with Gerald somewhere in his full name,

16 Which President of the USA, also was a owner of a haberdashery, and served in World War One,

17 Nancy, Eleanor, Laura, Michelle, Hilary, Barbara, Jill, Ladybird, Melania, Pat, Jacqueline, Mamie, Betty,  and Bess,  what do these names have that is so significant for post 1940 US presidents.

18 Richard Nixon, Bob Dole, and Donald Trump all famously referred to themselves for effect or something in the 3rd person, were they of the same party when first standing as president.

19 JFK, Clinton, Carter, and Obama, all Democratic Presidents elected to their first terms as relatively youthful candidates, Up to 2022, how many Democratic Presidents who were elected other than these, post World War Two, had not been VP beforehand,

20 From 1952 to 2004, how many times did the Republican ticket, not have a, Nixon,  Bush or Dole on the ticket.

The Answers

1 It was just the letter S.

2 The first 4, he beat them, the last of them, he was the VP on the ticket which lost to Harding,

3 Well Jackson is only on 3, Stevenson 4, Bush 6, Nixon 5, the winner Roosevelt 8, Bryan 4, Harrison 4, Adams 6, Johnson, I say 5, as one time, Lincoln, beat  Douglas with both of them having a so named fellow as VP candidate, but I say Douglas did not finish 2nd, so does not count, while Theodore R while not being a Dem or Rep in 1912 had such a named guy and finished 2nd,  Clinton, has 3 recently, but also 1804, 1808 and 1812, saw the name feature in one of the 2 main parties lead tickets, rising it to 6, then 7 as of 1820, if you include the fact that Madison won that election almost unopposed (The last time such a event would occur of 3 times) apart from some sprinklings of votes for the Federalist party which had no effective candidate, and a Clinton, who was a very distant 3rd place, so the highest actual person other the winner., So in a sense 7, there was even a minor party candidate with the name as a Christian name.

4 Eisenhower
